First, you will need to schedule a one-on-one consultation with Dr. Mann, the physician who will provide the Ultherapy treatment. He will answer all your questions and concerns, diagnose your skin's condition and then decide if you are a good candidate for this procedure or not.
Once it's determined you are a good candidate, you will schedule your appointment for the Ultherapy procedure. There are minimal pre-procedure steps you have to follow other than coming in to your appointment with a clean, washed face. For your own comfort and depending on your pain tolerance level, Dr. Mann and his staff will advise you to take an over-the-counter prescription medication before the treatment. The treatment itself is relatively pain-less and is often described as having a rubber band snap against your skin.
The Ultherapy Treatment Procedure
Once Dr. Mann has ensured that your skin has been properly cleaned and the area to be treated has been identified, he will apply an ultrasound gel to the target areas and put a smooth treatment applicator against your skin. Dr. Mann will then use Ultherapy's ultrasound imaging to look under the surface of your skin to determine the best placement for the energy placement. Once determined, he will deliver the ultrasound energy below the skin's surface.
During the treatment, you will experience a small amount of energy being placed at a precise depth. This sensation indicates the collagen-building process is taking place. This feeling will only last while the energy is being delivered. The levels of comfort vary from one person to another. How long your procedure will take depends totally on the area being treated. Your face and neck will normally take anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes while your chest area will only take 30 minutes.
What to Expect After the Treatment:
You will be able to return to normal activities directly after your treatment. There is absolutely no downtime and no post-treatment restrictions or requirements.
At first, your skin will look somewhat flushed but this appearance should disappear after a few hours. Some patients have experienced some swelling, tenderness or tingling but this is very mild and temporary.
Some other effects might include bruising or numbness around the treated area. As with any medical procedure, there could be other rare occurrences that your provider will go over with you during your initial consultation.
